Prison ministry

Free books for prisoners

For just the cost of postage, we sort donated books and send them to our incarcerated and institutionalized brothers and sisters. Our administrators are approved volunteer chaplains with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Anyone may request books

You may request books on behalf of any prisoner or institutionalized person. When postage is available, we'll do our very best to respond.

Because of our faith-based identity and institutions' rules, these subjects are not considered without a legitimate religious, medical or health reason: sexuality, anti-religious content, and inflammatory political rhetoric.

Donations of stamps, envelopes and packing material are welcome, and so are gifts toward postage.

Strengthening an under-served faith

Though in service of all, our prison ministry emphasizes Muslims, a population under-served behind bars. As of March 2020, 199 of the 236 federal prison chaplains were Protestant Christian, and no more than 13 were Muslim, while the number of Muslim inmates had grown to 11,073 (NPR, July 2021).

“Not long ago, an English writer telephoned me from London, asking questions. One was, ‘What's your alma mater?’ I told him, ‘Books.’” Malcolm X

While we take electronic media for granted, many souls still find their freedom in bound text.
